So I know this is similar to a previous post, but right now it’s important to me. This last Saturday evening I received a phone call from my mom, telling me about a family emergency, I immediately left and drove home. While driving I realized just how important cell phones are to me. My mom lives in San Diego, my brother in Valencia and my boyfriend in Laramie, I talk to each of them on a daily basis while I go about my everyday business. While driving I just started thinking back to when phones didn’t exist, information would take months to be relayed whereas today it’s basically instant. Not only that far back, but thinking back to 20 years ago when you were trying to pass along information you would have to call and leave messages for the individual your were looking to reach, hoping they would get it in a timely manner.
I’m just very thankful for my cell phone and what it means to me . . .

That is so funny I was thinking about the same thing today. I remember when I had to send a text message to my mom. I had to call a 1-800 number and tell the operator what to transcribe. Thank God nothing embarrassing happened that I had to tell the operator. I am so glad that cell phone technology has evolved.
I think cell phones are great as well - and save time and energy and increase our communication with friends and family BUT I do have a pet peeve about people using them (and loudly) in public places - especially the library - because I have overheard some very private conversations that really should be saved for a private place. I also think that driving while on the phone is a hazard even with a headset because even though it's great to pass the time on long trips, I have personally missed exits due to being engrossed in a conversation and arrived someplace and realized that I was on the phone most of the time and really don't remember the actual driving which is a little scary! I know that everyone has a different perspective on phone use, I did my Capstone on courtesy and cell phones were a huge part of it. I guess it's just like everything else, we should have our freedoms but we should try and be aware of how we might be affecting those around us.
I couldn’t live without my cell phone. The only place I see a land line these days is when I am at work or I visit my parents. Do you ever think about how we used to get information before all of these fancy digital networks? I’m old enough to have used one of those awful encyclopedias. I also remember how hard it was to find friends in a large crowd. Now all I have to do is pick a landmark and tell my buddies where I am at. Piece of cake!
